Who we are:
Abbeville and Greenwood County First Steps are part of a state initiative--South Carolina First Steps to School Readiness Act, the Enabling Legislation HR-36290-which provides for public and private resources to help children ages birth to give prepare to enter school healthy and ready to learn. Each of the state's 46 counties has formed a legislatively-designed partnership board, including parents of young children, representatives of the business, faith, education, heath and non-profit communities. Each county offers different First Steps programs and services, depending on the needs of the county. First Steps funds are used to improve the qualty of child care, expands early education programs, provide access to health services and offer family support. South Carolina First Steps is the only statewide entiity solely devoted to increasing school readiness. We are a grassroots partnership identifying public and private resources and collaborative opportunities amount:

What We Do:
◾Provide early education services that are individualized, comprehensive and outcome driven
◾Partner with parents, community organizations and early childhood professionals to ensure children
make healthy progress along developmental stages.
◾Utilize research-based curricula to incorporate the entire family.
◾Administer age-appropriate vision, hearing and dental screenings and developmental assessments.
